Project Info

WM2A developed a plan to retrofit Elam Alexander Academy so that the facility could be utilized as the main campus for the special needs children of Bibb County. The existing building was windowless and stark. The school board wanted an updated and open environment but safety was also a priority. WM2A accomplished the desired design objectives by using metal spandrel and hidden windows. Natural daylight is now visible in all classrooms due to the addition of the clerestory windows in the hallways. All of the rooms also received new, eco-friendly finishes that also have low life cycle cost. All of the M/E/P systems were replaced which improved the indoor air quality and provided more energy efficient systems. The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. The school was able to purchase a full playground with the money saved.
